HGV & TRAILERS

HGV TRUCK, TRAILER & PSV MOT TESTING at Kerr and Smith Cumnock Ltd

For vehicles over 3,500kg, HGV MOT testing standards apply, covering HGV motor vehicles, HGV trailers, and PSV minibuses/coaches, including vehicles with more than 8 seats. Given the distinct legal requirements for HGVs compared to standard cars and vans, these tests are more comprehensive and priced accordingly.

Our HGV MOT process involves:

  1. A thorough external examination checking lights, tyre age, VIN, horn, body and parts security, fuel cap, seat belts, seats, and windscreen
  2. Comprehensive exhaust smoke-meter testing
  3. Professional headlight alignment assessment (notably the most common MOT failure point)
  4. Shaker plate testing of all steered axles to verify steering components and wheel bearings
  5. Detailed under-body inspection examining brake components, exhaust, propshaft, loading valves, and checking for air or fluid leaks
  6. Complete Brake Roller testing to evaluate brake function, effort, bind, and ovality

At Kerr and Smith Cumnock Ltd, our team comprises fully qualified technicians trained to DVSA-examined standards. You can trust that your MOT and associated preparations will be conducted according to stringent DVSA requirements.

Following our inspection, we'll provide a detailed report of any issues discovered. Only after you've approved the costs will we proceed with the necessary repairs.
